ielts task 2 SHOPPING MALL

IELTS Task 2 Essay

Ques: An increasing number of larger shopping areas, malls, and department stores are leading to the decline of smaller corner shops. What are the advantages and disadvantages of shopping in larger shopping centres rather than smaller, more traditional shops?

Sample Essay: Malls have been popping up everywhere, whether in major cities or tiny communities. This phenomenon can be explained by the possibility that large department stores serve as all-inclusive dining, entertainment, and shopping venues. In the meantime, low-income households pay a heavy price for this.

On the one hand, the benefit of large retail centres is that they provide a variety of activities all under one roof, including restaurants, window businesses, arcades, and prayer rooms. With these all-inclusive options, customers may wander about and enjoy pleasant times with their families. Additionally, the tenants range in price from high-end to low-end goods. The children may play at the playground while the grownups shop. They could then have a variety of Chinese, Western, and local cuisines once they were all done shopping. On the other hand, small stores purchase items and offer a restricted selection of merchandise. Malls are quite popular these days because they appeal to all ages and genders.

On the other side, exorbitant costs at malls are a drawback. Malls in emerging nations are often populated by middle-class to affluent individuals rather than those with lower incomes. Due to the limited selection of products at tiny businesses, low-income households choose to spend their money there rather than splurge on unnecessary items. This indicates that shoppers may be persuaded to purchase unneeded items at malls because of the sales and displays. People’s consumption skills are greatly enhanced by places like this. For example, if our first goal is only to get our clothing on, we will unintentionally buy food and drinks as we go.

In conclusion, as an all-in-one shopping spot, gigantic shopping centres are exceptionally positive for individuals with higher compensation. In any case, it’ll upgrade the people’s utilisation rate. This conduct is less likely to happen in minor corner shops that are, for the most part, cherished by low-wage individuals.
